Shark Soiree
August 8, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 7:00 pm

Join the Museum of Coastal Carolina for a day swarming with shark activities that will inspire curiosity and raise awareness of one of the coast’s most feared ocean creatures on Thursday, August 8 from 10 am – 7 pm. Should humans fear or revere sharks? Determine whether these ocean predators are simply misunderstood.
OCEARCH Education Coordinator Kara Lawless will facilitate presentations throughout the day, talking about the past, present and future of OCEARCH; explaining why the North Carolina (NC) coast is important to white sharks; and describing Marine Science career opportunities.
Lawless earned a B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and a M.A.Ed. in Education from Virginia Tech. Prior to joining OCEARCH, Lawless worked as an animal trainer for the US Navy Marine Mammal Program and a high school Marine Biology teacher.
