Sandbar Lecture Series: ‘Hawk O’Clock’

August 6, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Enjoy lifelong learning fun throughout August at the Museum of Coastal Carolina’s weekly Sandbar Lecture Series! Every Tuesday at 6:00 pm, Sandbar Lectures inspire curiosity about regional history, coastal ecosystems, and diverse wildlife. Local subject matter experts facilitate lively and interactive presentations about a variety of fascinating topics for all visitors:

On August 6, it’s “Hawk O’clock” by Skywatch Bird Rescue. Explore what distinguishes a bird of prey from other birds with an area expert, live hawk ambassador and SkyWatch Bird Rescue Education/Outreach Coordinator Morgan Hooks. Learn what makes these birds awesome apex predators and discover easy steps everyone can take to protect these hawks’ wild relatives.

Sandbar Lecture attendees will watch a demonstration on how to help an injured bird; get an up-close look at a live bird of prey; and interact with feathers, pellets, and other real specimens.

SkyWatch Bird Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that rescues wild, exotic, and domestic birds in Southeastern North Carolina. By providing wildlife rehabilitation services, permanent sanctuary, and educational programming, SkyWatch achieves its mission to give thousands of birds “A Chance to Soar Once More” annually.

All one-hour Sandbar lectures are free with Museum admission. Visit the Museum website for current admission rates.
